Paving Cleaning – Different Solutions for Different Requirements
A mentioned before on this website and in our Online Shop, Paving Cleaners come as many different types as there are different types of paving, including: natural stone paving, reconstituted stone and other concrete blocks and manufactured paving elements, including clay pavers and ceramic such as increasingly now the trend for external grade porcelain tiles – It often then comes as a bit of a surprise to people that their expensive porcelain surfaces also need to be cleaned and sealed for protection in some situations, just like sensitive natural stone, or colored concrete blocks. This wide range of different paving element materials is why there is no universal cleaner that can be used on all paving materials, in fact some cleaners can be very detrimental if used on the wrong type of surfaces – So take care!
As a specific caution, we frequently still hear of people and websites and some ‘Facebook-experts’ suggesting the use of brick cleaning acid for paving cleaning, even though if this is used on almost any type of concrete or natural stone paving, then it will rapidly eat away at the surface and/or the grout, and likely also stain it irreversibly!
DO NOT USE BRICK CLEANING ACID on your paving – even if clay pavers and some types of natural stone or porcelain tile surfaces may be resistant, the grout almost certainly is not, especially cement or polymeric sand types, and the surfaces and/or the grout will be damaged and / or discoloured as a minimum!
Our range of both general and specialist chemical cleaning products have been developed and produced with our input and assessment of the most effective solutions by our research and production partners and are now supplied by NCC Streetscape. These are designed to increase the effectiveness of cleaning both block paving and natural stone paving, which is typically done by hand with scrubbing brushes and/or varying degrees of high-pressure water jet washing. The most effective solution for paving cleaning and removing ingrained dirt is usually achieved by a combination of all 3 means (chemical treatment, brushing/ scrubbing, and jet washing).
The chemical cleaning solutions from NCC are designed to be as safe as possible for use on domestic paved areas such as patios and driveways, as well as for use on commercial developments and public areas in town centres etc. with full safety sheets (MSDS) available to download in our shop, as well as for use on many other different types of hard landscaping and may also be effective on associated walls, furniture, and equipment etc. Testing on a small inconspicuous area is always recommended before general use of any of our paving cleaning solutions.
The most popular and widely used of NCC’s paving cleaning products and systems are also now available to buy here in our Online Shop.
NCC Paving Cleaners include solutions for removing many different types of stains:
- Green algae and other green / plant growths
- General dirt and grime build-up

- Resin jointing compound residues
Plus, there are also NCC Paving Cleaners for specific surfaces and requirements including external porcelain tiles:

As a result of years of experience and working with expert technical research and production partners, NCC Streetscape can now provide the right advice and paving cleaning solutions to remove most types of dirt and/or staining from a great many different kinds of natural stone, reconstituted stone and other cement based concrete block paving, as well as for and most other types of hard landscaping surfaces, such as porcelain and clay brick pavers etc.
It is also important to note that with these different types of chemical paving cleaning solutions, many are designed to be used at different concentrations / dilutions according to the nature, location and level of dirt and contamination, as well as the level of cleaning required. The sensitivity of the paving to be cleaned and any adjacent surfaces and areas must also be carefully considered. – e.g. it is always necessary to take great care with the handling and use of any chemical solutions, with paving cleaners this is particularly important near any areas of delicate planting, or indeed, any other sensitive surfaces. If your requirements for paving cleaning or paving stain removal are clear, then you can easily find the right product for your project and order directly in our Online Shop.

Paving Cleaning Products
For ALL Paving Cleaning Solutions - Important Notes:
- It is always necessary to read the respective manufacturers Product Data Sheet (PDS) for any chemical cleaning products carefully before use and to observe all of the precautions recommended in their Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) – These are all available to view or download in PDF format from our online shop.
- Take Care - Not every Paving Cleaning product can be used on every type of Concrete Block or Natural Stone paved surface, so it is always essential to read the specific recommendations and any limitations on the individual Product Data Sheets (PDS). We also strongly suggest that a test is carried out in an inconspicuous area, especially for any particularly porous or otherwise sensitive surfaces etc.
