GftK's vdw 815+ for Grouting Porcelain Paving

GftK's vdw 815 Paving Joint Mortar is a unique, 2-component, epoxy resin based, material that is designed for durable sealing of narrow joints, making it ideal for grouting porcelain paving with joint widths from 3mm, though normally recommended spacing for larger format external porcelain tiles is 5-8mm to avoid edge issues.

When grouting newly laid porcelain after the tiles are firmly bonded in position and strong enough to walk on, the surface must always be rinsed clean and then dried. This is also an opportune time to protect the pristine surface against future staining and resides for building works. This is done by applying NCC Porcelain Tile Protector and allowing this to dry, prior to the grouting operation.

GftK's vdw 850 Paving Joint Mortar Repointing Granite Setts - Hitchin Market Square - Oct-Nov 2009

GftK's vdw 850 Paving Jointing Mortar being used for the refurbishment and re-pointing of the granite sett paving in the historic Hitchin Market Square in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, UK. This shows the necessary cleaning and preparation required, followed by the mixing and installation of the vdw 850 paving jointing mortar.

Hitchin Town Market Place in Hertfordshire had its historic granite sett paving refurbished and made safe for shoppers, retailers and heavy delivery vehicles, all in time for the Christmas Shopping Markets and Celebrations in December 2009 – Despite the tight, four-week installation programme being during October and November 2009, which were also the wettest and highest rainfall in these months on record at the time!

Pavingexpert.com Revisiting GftK vdw 850 Granite Sett Pointing in Hitchin Market Square after 8+ years (in 2017)

This video is by Tony McCormack from www.PavingExpert.com making a visit in 2017 to inspect the granite sett paving in the historic Hitchen Market Square, which was extensively refurbished and completely repointed in the cold and wet weather experienced during October and November 2009, using GftK's vdw 850 Paving Jointing Mortar. This installation including the preparation and application of the vdw 850 was also witnessed and filmed at the time by the PavingExpert team, and this video is also available in this YouTube Channel (NCC Streetscape).

“After 8 years it looks like it was jointed yesterday!” - were the words from Tony and the technical impaction team from PavingExpert.com when they visited to inspect the paving refurbishment that they had last witnessed underway on the site eight years ago, when the traditional granite sett paving of the historic Hitchin Market Square in Hertfordshire, was fully refurbished, and repointed with GftK's vdw 850 Paving Joint Mortar. The expert continues: “Oh yes - The paving had been patched and pointed, re-pointed and grouted, glued and all sorts over the years, but nothing lasted long. They might get a couple of years, but before you knew it, the setts were a rocking and rolling all over again. Faced with the prospect of having to lift and re-lay the whole square, at huge cost, the Local Authority and their Consultants undertook some tests and decided to have one last roll of the dice with what looked like a very promising product: VDW 850 resin jointing mortar by NCC Streetscape. ”Like many old town centres and their market squares around the UK, these are a very demanding environment for paving and particularly the paving pointing. This is due to the more joint-dependent nature of small-format paving, especially with the multiple heavy-duty loadings, from articulated trucks to vans and market stalls selling everything under the sun, plus all sorts of traffic exposure, then frequent cleaning, including with large mechanical street cleaners etc. However, despite this after more than 8 years the paving was looking good - and “like it was jointed yesterday!” – Some testaments to the performance of GftK vdw 850+ from NCC Streetscape.

GftK's vdw 800 for Pointing a Driveway Stone Sett Circle

This driveway was designed with concentric circles of Black Limestone and Raj Green Sandstone setts surrounded by Indian Sandstone slabs, with a triple edge band of the same black limestone setts. The paving was all pointed using GftK’s vdw 800; the unique, 2-part, epoxy resin bound sand paving jointing mortars from NCC Streetscape.

GftK's vdw 800 jointing mortar was selected because it is easily able to accommodate the regular 4x4 traffic over the driveway, together with visiting delivery vehicles of up to 20 tons; plus the jointing work had to be completed quickly and on schedule, in order to enable access to the property, without delays due to the cold, wet and damp weather that was forecast.

GftK's vdw 840+ Paving Grout for Pointing a Sandstone Patio

GftK's vdw 840+ paving jointing mortar, or paving grout, being used for pointing a new patio for a private domestic residence in Cheshire, UK. The video was taken by PavingExpert.com as part of their independent review and assessment of this new paving grout that has been developed by GftK to be ideal for primarily DIY pointing of domestic patios and pathways for pedestrian use. The video shows how easy and quick it is to grout a patio using vdw 840+ by slurry application, rinsing with clean water and then simply brushing off; the patio is then complete and ready for use the next day. GftK's vdw 840 paving joint grout, which is the best on the market, of the simple vacuum packed 'bag in a tub' types of paving joint compound.

Repointing a Traditional Style, Mixed Brick and Concrete Slab Pathway using GftK's vdw 800
Product: GftK vdw 800

This existing footpath of was approximately 15 years old and had already been repointed at least twice previously with traditional and then prebagged sand and cement pointing mixes, but the 5 - 15mm wide joints had deteriorated again due to weathering and frost action.

The problem was solved by repointing with GftK 800 Paving Jointing Mortar from NCC Streetscape, which has also significantly improved the appearance of the whole front of the property. This mortar can be applied quickly and efficiently as a self compacting slurry, even in cold and wet conditions – this job was easily completed without weather delays in the cold and extremely wet month of November 2009.

NCC Paving Cleaners – Video Guides
How to Clean Blackspots & Green Growths from Patios / Paving

NCC Blackspot & Green Growth Remover is used to remove unsightly 'green growths' of algae, moss and other lower plant life, including so-called ‘blackspots’ from lichens and their spores, which other cleaners find difficult to remove! Suitable for use on all types of paving including natural stone, reconstituted stone, concrete, and ceramics (e.g. porcelain) and clay brick paved surfaces. It is supplied ready-to-use, in a viscous formula that effectively clings to hard mineral surfaces to remove organic growths without attacking these sometime sensitive substrates.

A bonus effect is to facilitate the cleaning and removal of dirt and grime, such as the dark staining deposits from plants and their leaves, including the common problem of green grass staining on your paving after over-ambitious mowing! This strong surface cleansing action also helps to visually improve and restore the appearance of your hard landscaping.

How to Use NCC Cement & Cement Grout Remover on Natural Stone & Porcelain Tile Paving

In addition to removing cement mortar spillages and stains as well as cement grout residues from stone and porcelain paving, there is often a very annoying 'Cement Haze' left on the surfaces that stubbornly refuses to go and it seems like you just keep chasing it around your patio for it to show up again when it dries out!

No more - The solution is to use a dilute solution of NCC Cement & Cement Grout Remover before a final rinse with clean water. The procedure is basically as outlined and shown in our other video here to remove larger spills and stains.

How To Clean Patios & Other Paved Landscape Surfaces using NCC Grime Remover

NCC Grime Remover is an intensive paving surface cleaner for all types of dirt and grime removal. This has been specially developed with NCC and is designed specifically for exterior use on all types of natural stone, reconstituted stone, and concrete paving, including limestone, sandstone, granite and slate, plus all types of concrete surfaces and blocks, clay bricks, as well as external porcelain & ceramic / quarry tiles. In fact, NCC Grime Remover is an effective cleaner for most hard landscaping and many different types of garden and exterior structures, garden furniture and play equipment etc.

Due to its unique and specialist formulation, the NCC Grime Remover is extremely effective at removing oils and grease, as well as many different forms of ingrained dirt, grime and common domestic household stains on patios, terraces, and driveways, as well as for commercial and retail areas in need of frequent cleaning, such as around food courts for example.

NCC Paving Sealers – Video Guides
Patio Protection with NCC Stone Sealer (solvented) – An Impregnating Sealer with a Natural Looking Finish

NCC Stone Sealer is an impregnating sealer with a ‘natural finish’ that was specifically developed in conjunction with NCC, as the ideal solution for protecting the natural surface and preventing staining on many different types and finishes of permeable natural and reconstituted stone, as well as and other mineral paving surfaces. This includes natural sandstones, limestones, granites, and slates etc., as well as for composite pavers such as clay brick pavers, reconstituted stone concrete paving & standard concrete block paving etc. The science behind the NCC Stone Sealer is that it is solvent-dispersed to ensure the best possible penetration and impregnation and over a wide temperature range, which water-based (dispersed) paving sealers can’t do!’

NCC Stone Sealer is a very effective surface impregnating sealer that dries with a natural 'matt' finish with minimal change to the colour and texture, where it then helps to protect the surface again against staining because it strongly repels water, oils, and grease. Technically this means that NCC Natural Stone Sealer is classified as being both hydrophobic and oleophobic. However, and very importantly, NCC Stone Sealer also allows the treated surfaces to breathe/transpire in accordance with normal building materials physics - this means that unsightly staining and discoloration due to salts entrapment and crystallisation behind the traditional surface film forming acrylic and polyurethane products, does not occur.

Protecting & Enhancing the Colour of Natural Stone Patios & Paved Areas using NCC Natural Stone Sealer (with a matt finish)

NCC Natural Stone Sealer is a clear impregnating and colour enhancing natural stone sealer, which was developed to protect and prevent surface staining on patios and other paved areas from driveways to retail and commercial areas. This is suitable for many different types of permeable natural and reconstituted stone and other mineral paving surfaces including sandstones, limestones, travertines, granites, and slates, as well as other pavers such as exterior quarry tiles, bricks & quality concrete block paving blocks and pavers.

The science and technology behind NCC Natural Stone Sealer is a new advance in water-borne resins for use as sealers, which can also penetrate very well into the pores in natural stone and concrete, to fully impregnate and therefore effectively seal and protect the surfaces. NCC Natural Stone Sealer is a very effective surface impregnating sealer that dries with a natural appearance with a 'silk matt' finish that subtly enhances the natural colours of your paving, where it protects the surface against future damage and staining, which is because it strongly repels water, oils, and grease. Technically therefore, NCC Natural Stone Sealer is classified as being both a hydrophobic and an oleophobic stone paving sealing material, plus it also allows the treated surfaces to breathe (transpire in accordance with normal building materials physics), which prevents unsightly staining and discoloration due to the build-up and entrapment of salts under the sealer.

Sealing & Protecting External Porcelain Tile Paving with NCC Porcelain Tile Protector (Before or after Grouting)

NCC Porcelain Protector -External Porcelain Tile protection against staining and dirt build-up is increasingly recognised as being essential to keep the surfaces in pristine and 'as-new' condition. This video shows the uses and how to apply the unique NCC Porcelain Tile Protector, available for NCC Streetscape.

Porcelain Protection Background: Although and as discussed in more detail on this website page Porcelain Paving, it is often a surprise to many people that their pristine new porcelain tile paving will need additional protection against the dense surfaces becoming stained, and/or that the cleaning of these hard and abrasion resistant surfaces is not always easy, to the extent that dirt seems to stick like the proverbial, and you can seem to be chasing a haze of dirt or grease around your expensive porcelain surfaces! However, not to worry, as there is an easy solution to prevent surface staining and to make cleaning these surfaces a breeze, by using NCC Porcelain Protector.
