Looking for a patio grout that’s genuinely easier, faster and better? Then GftK’s Patio Grout is the answer! Patio Grout is a unique, 1-part paving joint mortar for garden patios, pathways and terraces. It comes vacuum-packed and ready to use — no mixing required, simply cut open the bag and pour it onto the pre-wetted paving and apply as a wet slurry with a squeegee and a continual fine spray of water from a hose. After that, Patio Grout flows easily across the paved surfaces and fully self-compacts into the joints, with no additional tooling or finishing required.

Why this patio grout is different

Patio Grout has a unique formulation that sets it apart from every other 1-part jointing product on the market. Its excellent internal cohesion, excellent wet flow and compacting capability, allow the most efficient wet-slurry application across the paved surfaces, where it flows into and fills the joints, effectively self-compacting, with no additional compacting by tooling or additional finishing required. As a result, Patio Grout provides a denser, stronger and more durable joint — plus the consumption and wastage is lower, so you need fewer packs for the same area.

  • Ready to use — supplied vacuum-sealed in the pail; no mixing required
  • Fast wet-slurry application — self-compacting, with no additional tooling or finishing
  • Non-staining — even on sensitive natural stone such as sandstone, and no oily residue
  • Works even in light rain — no waiting for perfect dry weather
  • Optimised strengths and performance — higher than every other 1-part product on the market. Patio Grout really is Easier, Faster and Better!

Patio Grout vs brush-in jointing compounds

Searching for a brush-in patio grout? However, it’s worth knowing the difference. With ordinary brush-in compounds, you sweep the material into the joints dry or damp, then usually need to compact it with a pointing tool — and because their loose fill gives them low strength, they often crack, wash out or let weeds through.

Patio Grout is even easier and more convenient — it’s a single pack, ready to use with no mixing — but you apply it as a wet slurry, never simply brush it in. The water-assisted application is what makes it self-compact so effectively, producing far higher strengths than any brush-in product. In short, it’s the same easy, DIY-friendly experience — for a much better joint.

Where to use Patio Grout

  • Garden patios, pathways and terraces with pedestrian traffic
  • Natural stone and concrete paving
  • Slabs, flags, ceramics and brick pavers
  • Joints from 3mm to 20mm wide and minimum 20mm deep
  • Easy, fast and ideal for both new patio paving, and patio repointing projects

Where not to use it — and what to use instead

Patio Grout suits domestic areas with pedestrian traffic. It does not suit driveways or any area with traffic and under heavy dynamic load from vehicles moving and turning, or use over dense and impermeable, watertight concrete base foundations. For driveways and trafficked areas, the ideal solution is to use our 2-part epoxy paving joint mortars instead: GftK vdw 850+, for joints from 5–6mm wide, or GftK vdw 815+ for narrow joints from just 3mm wide, such as used on some areas of porcelain paving.

How to apply GftK’s Patio Grout — wet-slurry in four steps

First, clean the paving and joints, then pre-wet the whole surface to saturation with clean water. Next, open the pail, cut open the vacuum-sealed bag, and pour the ready-to-use mortar onto the wet surface in small piles, and using a hard rubber squeegee with a fine water spray from the hose nozzle, move it diagonally as a wet slurry across the paved surfaces and into the joints — where it flows in and effectively self-compacts as you go, with no additional tooling needed. Finally, allow a few minutes for the water to drain, then clean off any surplus with more water and a soft coconut-fibre brush.

Working time is around 30 to 45 minutes at 20°C. Then keep foot traffic off for at least 24 hours; the area is ready for full use after about 7 days. Full application guidelines and videos are available — see the QR code on the pail or visit our application videos page.

Colours

Available in four colours: Natural, Stone Grey, Silver Grey and Basalt — supplied ready to use in a vacuum-sealed bag inside a sturdy 15kg pail.

What is the best patio grout?

Comparative testing of 1-part paving joint products on the UK market clearly shows that Patio Grout with GftK Technology achieved the optimal strengths by far (see the graphic charts above) — combined with the easiest and fastest start-to-finish application. However, for driveways or vehicle areas, step up to the best 2-part epoxy paving mortar on the market — GftK vdw 850+.

Is Patio Grout a brush-in jointing compound?

No — and that's a key advantage. Although it is also a single-pack material, supplied vacuum-packed and ready to use just like brush-in products, Patio Grout is a completely different basis and a unique formulation, which you must always apply as a wet slurry, never simply dry brush in. The wet-slurry application is what ensures its optimised self-compaction with no tooling or finishing required, and helps to produce the much higher strengths, better performance and higher durability than any brush-in compound.

What joint sizes does it suit?

Joints from 3mm to 20mm wide, with a depth of 20 to 30mm for optimum performance (minimum the full depth of the paving). For joints wider than 15mm, use twice the width as the depth.

Can I use Patio Grout on a driveway?

No. Patio Grout suits pedestrian paved areas, such as patios, pathways and terraces. For driveways and any areas with vehicle traffic, use GftK's 2-part epoxy resin paving joint mortars, such as vdw 850+.

Can I apply Patio Grout in the rain?

Yes — you can apply Patio Grout in wet conditions, including during light rain when necessary. This is because you pre-wet the paving for application anyway. Apply only at temperatures (ambient and surface) between 5°C and 25°C. However, protect the freshly completed joints from heavy rain and keep foot traffic away for at least 24 hours.

What colours and pack sizes are available?

Four colours — Natural, Stone Grey, Silver Grey and Basalt — supplied ready to use in 15kg pails. Consumption depends on your paving and joint sizes; please refer to our Patio Grout consumption calculator, or you can email or call us if you need assistance for your project.

Repointing an existing patio

Patio Grout suits repointing as well as grouting new patio paving. Clean the paving thoroughly first — our specialist paving cleaners are very effective and quickly remove dirt, algae and old residues so the new mortar bonds to the joint arrises (edges) properly. Note that, as with all 1-part jointing products, you should never clean the finished joints by direct high-pressure jetting — our modern paving cleaning solutions are the safer way to keep the patio pristine. Once the joints have hardened and fully cured (a minimum of 28 days), you can apply a paving sealer to reduce future paving dirt pick-up and staining if required.
