A good patio sealer protects your paving without changing how it looks. NCC Water-based Paving & Patio Sealer is an impregnating patio sealant that soaks into the surface rather than sitting on top of it. As a result, your stone keeps its natural colour and texture, while gaining strong protection against water, oil, grease and frost.

Why seal your patio?

Most natural stone and concrete paving is porous. So it absorbs water, and with it dirt, oil, food and drink spills. Over winter, absorbed water freezes and expands, which can damage the surface.

Sealing closes that door. A sealed patio resists staining, sheds water, and is far easier to clean — which means it keeps looking good for longer with less work.

Where to use this patio sealant

  • Natural stone paving — sandstone, limestone, granite, slate and marble
  • Reconstituted stone, concrete paving and block paving
  • Quarry tiles and brickwork
  • Indoor floors as well as outdoor patios and terraces
  • Vertical surfaces such as walls, as well as horizontal paving

A natural finish — not a wet look

This is an impregnating sealer, so it dries with a natural finish and minimal change to the stone’s colour and texture. If you want a richer, enhanced colour instead, see our Stone Sealer & Enhancer. For porcelain paving, use the Porcelain Tile Protector.

How to apply it

First, make sure the paving is clean and completely dry. Remove any dirt, algae or stains beforehand — our paving cleaners range will help if needed.

Then apply the sealer evenly with a roller, brush or sprayer, working in manageable sections. Avoid puddling or over-application. Finally, allow it to soak in and dry fully before using the area.

For best results, seal on a dry day with no rain forecast, and check the technical data sheet for coverage and drying times.

Do I need to seal my patio?

If your paving is porous — most natural stone and concrete is — then sealing is worthwhile. It stops water, oil and dirt soaking in, reduces staining, and protects against frost damage over winter. Porcelain, being non-porous, doesn't strictly need sealing, though a protector can still make cleaning easier.

What is the best patio sealer?

For most patios, a water-based impregnating patio sealer is the best choice. It protects from within, keeps the natural look of the stone, and is easy to apply. If you want to deepen the colour instead, choose an enhancing sealer.

Will this sealer change the colour of my paving?

No. It dries with a natural finish and minimal change to the stone's colour and texture. For a richer, enhanced colour, use our Stone Sealer & Enhancer instead.

How long does patio sealer last?

It depends on the surface, the weather and how much traffic the area gets. As a guide, expect to reseal every few years — you'll know it's time when water stops beading on the surface.

Can I use it on block paving and indoors?

Yes. It suits block paving, concrete and most porous mineral surfaces, and it can be used internally as well as externally — including on vertical surfaces such as walls.

When can I seal a newly laid or newly grouted patio?

Allow the paving and joints to harden and fully cure first — a minimum of 28 days for newly laid, freshly grouted or repointed joints. The surface must also be completely dry, as sealing over damp paving traps moisture.
