GftK’s vdw 870 Paving Jointing Sand Stabiliser
Paving “Jointing Sand Stabilisers” are not the same as a “Paving Sealer” as they are more specifically designed to penetrate into the sand and bind the loosely filled sand grains together between ‘flexibly’ laid paving stones or blocks. ‘Flexibly laid’ simply means that the blocks are laid on a bed of compacted sand / aggregate and not laid ‘rigidly’ into concrete or mortar. The use of the paving jointing sand Stabiliser vdw 870 is effectively therefore to stabilise these sand filled joints, which then significantly increases the resistance and prevents the jointing sand being extracted by weathering and light domestic cleaning operations, such as vacuum sweeping and controlled power washing, plus the also increase the resistance to entry for plant seeds, roots and burrowing insects such as ants. Therefore paving jointing sand stabilising products need to be less penetrative but tougher and more flexible and elastic than surface sealers in order to bind the sand particles together and so enable the filled joints to accommodate the natural flexing and movement of flexibly laid block paving.
GftK’s vdw 870 Paving Jointing Sand Stabiliser is a specifically formulated jointing sand stabilising product, developed for this purpose. It is an acrylic resin based, water dispersed jointing sand stabilising solution that provides a very useful, cost effective, easy to use and environmentally friendly solution for domestic block paving sand stabilising applications, such as on patios and pathways or driveways with light vehicles i.e. normal domestic cars and bikes etc. GftK’s vdw 870 is well proven in the UK and Europe and is ideal for both professional and competent DIY use on domestic applications.
Application of the vdw 870 is simple: – After compacting the sand into the joints the vdw 870 is spray applied in dry conditions and a dry forecast, then any excess is carefully squeegeed across the paved surfaces to completely penetrate, fill and seal penetrate the sand filled joints. Finally any residual free standing solution is carefully sponged-off and removed, ponding should be avoided.
Note: Acrylic sand stabilisers are not designed for use in heavily used commercial or vehicular trafficked areas, or use with a aggressive mechanical or high pressure water jet or mechanical street cleaning machines, so for these situations please refer to NCC Streetscape for any specific advice.
